In marketing terms, a generalist is often used to refer to somebody who has a good understanding of a number of different areas such as SEO, PPC or Content Marketing, but they are an expert in any of them. This, of course doesn’t mean someone cannot be well versed in each of these areas, it’s just a good way of describing somebody who hasn’t focused on one specific area.

This is in contrast to an SEO specialist or a PPC specialist, as these are roles where the sole focus is either on SEO or PPC respectively.
